Chinese ambassador visits book fair

DHAKA, Feb 7, 2025 (BSS) – Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Yao Wen accompanied by interim government’s Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki visited the month-long ‘Amar Ekushey Grantha Mela’, Bangladesh’s largest book fair today afternoon.
On his arrival at the Bangla Academy premises, the envoy was welcomed by traditional (Chinese) lion dance in front of the China Book House (stall no 972-973).
As a token of mutual relationship, Yao Wen offered a book to Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki titled “Happy Chinese New Year” from the China Book Stall.
Talking to media Yao Wen said Chinese government is working with the interim government to promote relations between the two countries.
He said China has designated three hospitals in Kunming for Bangladeshi patients. Those hospitals will provide the best medical services to Bangladeshi patients, he said.
“To make the service economical, we will offer packages including air ticket, medical services and food,” he added.
Adviser Farooki said China is one of the important partners of Bangladesh economic development. The relationship between Bangladesh and China is much diversified and not only based on economy as both the countries are working together in different fields and have cultural exchanges also.
He said Bangladesh has already started working to expand inter-cultural relationship with China. As part of this, he said, five Bangla classic literary works will be translated into Chinese and five Chinese classic literary works will be translated into Bangla.
He hoped that those books will come to the readers in the next national book fair.
