Icddr,b observes World Environment Day 2025

DHAKA, June 19, 2025 (BSS) – Icddr,b’s Environmental Health and WASH Research Group, part of the Health Systems and Population Studies Division, today observed World Environment Day 2025.
The event brought together over 300 participants, including researchers, university students, development partners, government officials, and environmental advocates, focusing on this year’s global theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.
Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed addressed the event as the chief guest while Department of Environment Director General Dr Md Kamruzzaman addressed it as special guest.
Hospital Services Management, DGHS Line Director Dr Md Zaynal Abedin Tito was also present at the event, said a press release here.
Executive Director of icddr,b Dr Tahmeed Ahmed inaugurated the event.
Dr. Farhina Ahmed said, “I am deeply inspired by the champions gathered here today, particularly icddr,b’s vital research. Our collective efforts, driven by scientific evidence and the commitment of every citizen, are essential to overcome environmental challenges like plastic pollution and build a clean, green, and prosperous Bangladesh for future generations.”
Lead and Project Coordinator of the Environmental Health and WASH programme Dr Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Shabiha Sultana Nuha, from North South University and Sharaf Nawar from East West University, among others, were present at the event.
