Prior to their opening Test match against Bangladesh, Pakistani captain Shan Masood emphasized the need of preserving the dressing room environment on Tuesday, stating that it can influence on-field performances.
In the first of two Tests between Pakistan and Bangladesh, which begins here on Wednesday, they will square off in what promises to be a hectic season with nine Test matches total. It also provides Pakistan with a chance to shake off a setback both on and off the field.
Pakistan has been in a downward spiral since the Asia Cup last year. In addition to their average on-field performance, fans have been further disappointed by recent media stories of players’ disagreements in the dressing room, PCB leadership decisions, and its governance style.
“I think it is a good opportunity for us to do well at home and the dressing room environment plays a pivotal role in shaping on-field performances,” Masood told the media during his pre-match press conference.
“Our main focus and what I personally believe in as a leadership philosophy — which Jason also believes in along with all the other players — is that everything starts from the dressing room,” he said.
Pakistan struggled in a T20I series at home against a depleted Kiwis side, lost badly in the Asia Cup and the 50-overs World Cup, was soundly defeated in Australia and New Zealand, and was eliminated in the first round of the T20 World Cup.
Masood stated that in addition to trying to provide the players continuity and an environment in which they can enjoy their cricket, he and Gillespie are also attempting to foster inclusivity.
Bangladesh will be relieved to be able to concentrate on cricket rather than the turmoil in their nation going into the Test.
Under the direction of Najmul Hossain Shanto, the visiting team will feature some seasoned players, including as past captains Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mominul Haque.
Together with a few seamers, Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, two of Taijul Islam’s best spinners, are also proud of Bangladesh.
