The discussion on the presidential election is not yet resolved, as talks are still ongoing about the powers of the president and whether the electoral college will be expanded, BNP’s Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said today (19 June).

As per the BNP’s written stance, a person cannot become prime minister after serving two consecutive terms, Salahuddin told reporters after the second phase of talks with political parties.
“That is why the issue of a bicameral parliament was discussed again today.”
He also said since the discussion on the prime minister’s term started late, it will be continued again on Sunday.
Salauddin said, “What we have stated in writing regarding the presidential election is based on the existing system — with 500 votes from the members of both the upper and lower houses of parliament.
“Many parties have suggested a ‘secret ballot’. In that case, members of parliament would vote independently. If I am to give an opinion on this, I need prior approval from the party.”
