Hindu protesters in Bangladesh are demanding protection for their homes and religious places, reservations, five-day holidays for Puja, and the establishment of a special ministry for minorities.

“National Security Intelligence (NSI) and the Director General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) have undergone a complete overhaul, and reshuffling is ongoing. We have entered uncharted territory,” Professor Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, a political commentator in Dhaka, told this newspaper.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) Sakhawat Hussain on Monday advised the Awami League to reorganize the party and participate in the upcoming elections.

The US Embassy has issued a security alert for Bangladesh, urging American citizens to remain vigilant and consider returning to the US. “Avoid demonstrations and exercise caution in the vicinity of any large gatherings. Review personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events and monitor local news stations for updates,’’ the US advisory stated.
